Day 1

After a rough start to the morning, we are finally in China.  Because of some stressful events this morning, our cat Samantha decided to hide in some incredible hiding spot so that I was unable to locate her before we left.  I felt terrible leaving without knowing she was OK. Luckily our neighbor and friend Heather was able to check on her, and I got the email that she was fine when we landed.  Also, two baby birds decided to fly into our garage this morning and were impossible to get out so we could leave for the airport.  After 15 minutes we finally got both of them out, only to have one to come back in one more time.  But after that, we were able to leave and get to airport parking.  We got to the airport 2 hours ahead of time, but after multiple lines, we ended up boarding right when we got to the gate.  Then our plane was one hour delayed.  After we got off the plane, it took another hour to get through immigration.  We waited in line for more hours than I would have ever imagined.  Luckily Gus was patient throughout it all, and he did very well on the flight. So did John and I.  I was able to watch The Hunger Games and see what all the fuss has been about.  We then met our guide George at the airport along with some other families from our agency.  It then took another hour to get to the hotel. We were able to walk around by the hotel after check in and had our first meal in China-Pizza Hut.  Yep. We were too tired to feel adventurous.  We then walked to the 7/11 to buy some water and a Budweiser.  Like John said, fully immersed in the Chinese culture.  We will do better tomorrow. Also, on our way back to the hotel, we saw a huge group of people line dancing in front of the Christian Church.  Whatever happened to Tai Chi?  I knew if my mom or sisters were here, they would have jumped right in.
So we are off to bed, 8pm China time, to try and get caught up on sleep.  Tomorrow we begin touring at 8:30 in the morning.
4 more days until Milli!!!

  1. Lisa,
So glad to know you made it safely. It’s always something. On our first adoption, about an hour before the car came to pick us up for the airport, we locked ourselves out of our house. So, I know the panic. Everything always works out though, and to boot you’ll have awesome stories to tell that you’ll laugh about through the years (although I admit I have yet to laugh about plane delays).

Have a great time in Beijing! Can’t wait to hear all about your 1st full day.

    Anxiously awaiting Milli.

  4. So glad to hear you made it their safely! Was thinking about you all day. I'd look at the clock and think...they're still on the plane. Then a couple hours later I'd look at the clock...they're still on that stinking plane. That went on all day.

On our first trip KFC was our BFF. There was nothing else around and we were so not adventurous. Looking forward to seeing pics. I'm so excited!
